Summer 2013 Events Preview – Anchorage, AK

Summer is the time to enjoy outdoor activities and barbecues. Now that summer is here, people are looking for things to do. There are a number of things to do in Anchorage, Alaska. They range from outdoor camping to concerts. There is no shortage of exciting and fun activities awaiting everyone, who chooses to come to Anchorage.

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, and there a wide variety of activities that take place daily. The summers are long, and this allows many things to be crammed into a day. This amazing location has so many wonderful things that can keep even the most adventurous person on their toes.

The Summer Solstice Festival

A lot of festivals and fairs take place during this time. Here people can enjoy fun rides, lots of games, and good food. The Summer Solstice festival and the Hero Games take place around June 22 of this year. This is just one of the many events that celebrate Alaska’s longest day.

Not only do they have all day activities, there is also a band with live music to keep the people dancing. Meanwhile, the Hero Games are events that the local police, all of the branches of the military, the fire department, and the troopers stage for an all day long series of competitions.

The Anchorage Market & Festival

This festival takes place every Saturday & Sunday, during the months of May 11 – Sept. 8. Come out and enjoy the great food and free entertainment, along with wonderful crafts presented by the local farmers and artists.

The 4th of July Anchorage Celebration

This is the 13th year the parade and festival is taking place. This year’s theme is, “A Home for Our Heroes.” Part of the celebration includes the parade and the annual pancake breakfast. The Totem Ocean Trailer Express sponsors this event each year, and the benefits go to the Salvation Army.

Fourth of July Festival / Mount Marathon Race – Wednesday, July 3, 10:00 a.m.

Summer brings out the athlete in all of us and this annual race is no different. It will also feature a parade and games for the children. For more information check out the registration website here.

This weekly concert series takes place every Friday night. It is a great place to hang out with friends or make new friends. Come join the fun.
