The 5-Step Roadmap to Real Estate Success in Alaska.
From dreaming to doing: Your roadmap to real estate success
How do you survive your real estate adventure in Alaska? Honestly, sometimes it’s exciting, and sometimes it’s overwhelming. But what I do is I keep a compass on my desk to remind me of one thing: direction matters. It’s not a magical compass that tells me my heart’s deepest desire, but it reminds me to ask: where am I right now, and where am I trying to go?
In this business, success depends on knowing what stage of the journey you’re in. Let me walk you through them.
1. Dream. What do you want your real estate adventure to look like? Maybe it’s relaxed and flexible, like a beach vacation. Or maybe it’s more intense and challenging, like a long hike. It could even be fast-paced and busy, like touring a big city.
Some people want to work 70 hours a week and earn a high income, while others prefer to keep things part-time to have more time with their kids. Whatever your version is, the important thing is to be clear about it. That’s your dream.
2. Plan. Once you know the dream, it’s time to get into planning mode. What needs to happen to make that vision a reality? What are the actual steps, tools, and actions you’ll need? This is the part where you get clear on the nuts and bolts of how to move forward. First, we dream, then we plan.
"Stay focused, stick with what’s working, and keep taking action."
3. Execute. This is where many people get stuck—they bounce between dreaming and planning but never take action. At some point, you have to move. Otherwise, it’s like planning a trip to the Amazon, reading all about it, buying the gear, and never booking the flight. If you’ve already dreamed and planned, it’s time to execute.
4. Review. Once you’re in execution mode, it’s important to pause and check in. If the plan is working and you’re seeing results, keep going. If not, this is the time to make adjustments. Review what’s happening and refine what needs to change.
5. Keep executing. Once you’ve reviewed your progress and things are on track, there’s no need to overcomplicate it. This is the momentum stage, where consistency matters most. Stay focused, stick with what’s working, and keep taking action.
So, each morning I start by asking myself a simple question: Where am I in the process? Am I dreaming, planning, executing, or reviewing? Knowing where I am helps me focus on what matters most that day. These steps keep me on track, and I hope they will also help you stay on course in your own real estate adventure.
