What Should You Do When You’re Not Achieving Your Goals?

Real estate agents’ guide on what to do when you’re not hitting your goals.

Now that we’re well into the year, it’s time to ask yourself a crucial question: How are you doing on your progress—are you meeting your goals? For real estate agents or any goal-driven profession, evaluating where we stand helps us decide on the best course of action if we fall short of our goals. Today, I will share three strategies you can adopt if you’re not hitting your targets:

  1. Consider letting go. If your goal no longer holds value or relevance, it might be time to reconsider it. If you find that your initial goal no longer aligns with your current objectives, doesn’t resonate with your values, or simply just isn’t working for you, it may be wise to let it go. Quitting doesn’t mean being a quitter or being a failure; it’s about realigning your efforts with what truly matters now.
  1. Continue what you’re doing. Another approach some people might choose is to maintain their current course without making any changes, hoping that things will turn around. This means sticking to your existing plan, acting as if everything is fine, and expecting the best. However, this strategy does come with risks. It may be ineffective if it still isn’t bringing you closer to your goal. If you haven’t made significant progress, continuing without adjustments is unlikely to yield different results. Remember: hoping for a better outcome without changing your approach is not a practical strategy.

“Realigning your strategy when you’re off track is the key to achieving your desired outcomes.”

  1. Adjust your actions and strategy. The most effective approach when you’re not on track is to assess your current activities and make necessary adjustments. This involves a detailed evaluation of where you stand in relation to your goal and recalibrating your efforts to meet your target. For example, if your goal was to close 40 homes this year and you’ve only closed 25, you need to determine how many more homes need to be closed within the remaining timeframe. Break down the remaining tasks, set weekly targets, and ensure your daily activities align with these new objectives. By adjusting your strategy, you can increase your chances of achieving your goal.

I hope you find these tips helpful. If you’re in a position where you haven’t yet achieved your targets, consider these options carefully.
